RYURI, Saaya « Thread Started on Jun 25, 2008, 5:20am »
Name: Ryuri Saaya (last name, first name)
Age: Eighteen years
Species and Gender: Essentially a human female
Side: The highest bidder
Do they own a Death Note?: Nope, lacking a Death Note over here
Personality: Saaya is very much an introvert; she learned this self-defence mechanism from a very young age, being that she would normally be forced to keep herself company. She is the sort of person who can easily handle solitary confinement with barely a complaint. She finds little need for socialization, although she is perfectly willing to attempt it in order to get what she wants.
Towards others, Saaya can be distant and cold and is often seemingly suspicious. She does not trust easily, and nor would she desire to have the ability to do so. This could be because, overall, Saaya knows that she isn’t completely trustworthy, so why should she trust others? Her nature is very blunt, and she can be mistaken for rude even when she does put in the effort to be less callous… regardless of the futility of her attempt. She is also manipulative and spiteful, finding that she would rather tweak things to get her own way than put in the effort and take the time to get it that way. To Saaya, people are usually just in her way and she would rather not be bothered. People are around her only to assist her, and worth only that. Perhaps she's just afraid of not being good enough, but Saaya believes she did away with that thought ages ago. She was given every material item she wanted since she was just a little child, and perhaps that is what was to become Saaya's ultimate undoing.
Saaya has also learned to find arrogance an attractive quality in others, merely because she finds it a powerful mindset to possess. To her, arrogance sends the message that they have pride and dignity, and that they will not bend over to anyone else's will. Saaya has menial respect for these people (that happens to be quite a bit, Saaya’s respect is not earned easily), although she would never allow one such as that into her little group of what she considers to be nothing more than lackeys. Arrogance is trouble, even if it is admirable. This reflects Saaya’s warped perception of many things. Fiercely competitive and cunning due to her intelligence and arrogance regarding her intelligence, she can never accept second best. She has watched people, studied psychology, and grown to have a deep understanding of human nature and what makes people tick. Combined with her already developed skill of manipulation, Saay is a force to be reckoned with when wronged. She isn’t known to be very forgiving, and if given the opportunity she would chase someone to the ends of the Earth just for the pure intention of spite.
She also seems to have developed several personalities, with only two being completely evident if one looks hard enough. Perhaps this stemmed from Saaya’s deeply buried hate in regards to being female so she eventually became confused and these greatly varying aspects of her grew out of her own confusion, contempt, and inability to handle such feelings. This may be why the most visible of her personalities is the darker one that most people are familiar with. Her spiteful ways and cold attitude are what greet most people the moment they enter into her life. When she is like this, Saaya is unpredictable and often nasty, sometimes going into fits of rage when no one is around. She likes having people working under her, and relishes doling out punishment, and finding physical justice the most suitable. To her, one can earn back their innocence through physical pain. She taught herself that long ago, and certainly doesn't mind teaching this lesson to others. But this sadistic part of her is only seen among those closest to her, and even then only the ones who haven't bothered to try to earn her respect. When she is like this, she cannot be reasoned with, and doesn’t pay attention to consequences; something a calmer Saaya might appreciate. When she is like this, Saaya is a danger to herself and others, but only because of her brash impulses. But despite all of this, when properly motivated Saaya can jump into leadership form, becoming dangerously calm yet entirely logical.
The other visible personality is a sweet, loving, and ultimately frightened girl who has never learned the true value of spiritual intimacy. This could be because she is secretly worried that coming close to anyone would merely ruin her plans for her future and dispose of her success. This personality makes itself known when Saaya is alone, calm, and contemplative, perhaps while she is writing or studying. When she is like this, she is tentative and known for thinking deeply for hours on end without moving. The tone of her voice will change, becoming softer, reflecting her newly acquired cautious attitude. She is likely to withdraw inside herself when she is like this, taking several minutes to reply to someone if they were to speak to her. But anything can set Saaya off, making her unpredictable and fragile. One never knows what to do with Saaya, but ultimately she needs to learn to care about others and not just herself.
History: Saaya grew up in simple suburbia, born to a wealthy family with a workaholic father and a stay-at-home spendthrift mother. Neither parent bothered to spend much time with her when she was a little girl, and she basically grew in the care of nannies or distant relatives. She was never socialized with much as a child, so she was forced to learn the proper behaviours on her own, never getting along well with other children in school, but at the same time acting as a leader for them. In every way, she struggled to please, aiming for some higher sort of recognition. But teachers never thought well of her, thinking of her know-it-all attitude as Saaya’s fault and the result of bad upbringing. But she had always been an intelligent child… she just never knew how to properly show it. These early experiences with people were negative, and obviously influenced Saaya’s fragile, emotionally demanding, awkward personality.
Despite the lack of attention Saaya received at home, she started to develop a certain affection for her father and strove to please him when trying to please others failed her. Of course, this natural affection got her no where in earning the approval of her busy father, but she refused to give up, never a quitter, and aimed to teach herself a few tricks aimed in his direction. Being that she knew he worked with computers and that was all he ever did, Saaya placed the two together and decided to teach herself what she could. She even studied Latin very carefully in her spare time, thinking that another language might impress him. It failed, but nevertheless she established for herself a useful talent, though in the meantime she began to wonder if he would pay more attention to a son…
At fifteen, Saaya left her home, tired of living with her family when she was taking care of herself just fine without them. She used the help of her uncle on her father's side, having established a rather odd relationship with him - with it being close yet also cold and distant. He has provided clients for her, where she may fix or build a computer for them, or perform some sort of illegal hack. This is where she receives most of her income, finding traditional student work not her thing (computer work also pays much better). And a few months after moving out, Saaya's father contacted her and she reconciled with her parents, although they did not ask her to move back. She now attends university.
Role-Play Sample: I could write up another one for you, if you like, but in the meantime here’s a recycled rp sample using this character, but renamed (actually, I renamed Senna here to the Japanese version of her name). I put it in quotes because it’s kinda long.
And you didn't spell canon as 'cannon'! YAY! *offers cookie*
Quote:
Senna was still rather irritated. Although now more frazzled than anything else, as she finally reached the group of three. Her breathing was only slightly worse than easy from all that running, but already she was relaxing as her heartbeat slowed to its normal rate. Running was not a problem for her by any means – she often raced at school – but she really wasn’t all that pleased that she’d had to follow someone who had almost disappeared. Only to now be met with two other strangers. She rarely did this much socializing in a typical day, especially not with strangers.
Perhaps meeting this Bakura was an omen of some sort. Or…well, maybe nothing like that. No person could be that severe. She simply saw him as bad luck now. A waste of her precious time.
Senna noticed the two other boys eyeing her, seemingly wary. Well, that made sense. She didn’t exactly go out of her way to look particularly friendly, and she was not in one of her easier going moods. But she didn’t care what they thought. She was, however, rather close by now and certainly close enough to hear their words.
But suddenly, the youngest-looking boy spoke. Could he help her? What the hell? What sort of help could he offer her? She knew it was merely the sort of greeting that people gave those they were uncertain about, and she thought it was stupid. Why not be more blunt? Say something like “Who the hell are you?” She wouldn’t bite if someone did that.
Then the other strange boy placed a hand on the kid’s shoulder, saying that Senna had no intention of hurting them. She smirked at that, and at the obvious protective signs he was showing. Wasn’t that sweet? She tilted her head slightly, considering making a sarcastic statement. Yes, actually, yes. She did have an intention of hurting them. In fact, she liked to take on groups of three against herself. She liked to mug people in the afternoon, instead of the early mornings when it made so much more sense. Senna rolled her eyes. God, kids could be so wrapped up in outwardly projections. She hadn’t even meant to look intimidating. Could people not be flustered these days?
And now Bakura was introducing her, after looking at her with that annoying little smile. How could someone be so delightfully ignorant? Maybe they’d buy his little illness story, but she wasn’t.
“Oh, stuff it already.” She narrowed her eyes as she spoke, “Sick? Well you run rather quickly for a sick little boy. Maybe it was that awful sandwich you must have devoured. But as for that see-through attempt to ditch me, I really don’t think you were feeling all that ill. If you were at the time, you could have very easily just taken off with that excuse, and you didn’t. Any moron knows that.”
She shook her head very lightly, a sign of exasperation. A lie. She always knew a lie when she heard one, or at least, almost always. She knew already that there was something odd about him. The way he’d taken off was still unsettling to her. But she shrugged it off, not really caring anymore. She’d just made a rather unpleasant first impression on the two strangers, and it was to them she directed her next comment.
“Yup,” she shrugged, changing her posture to be somewhat more casual while projecting a calmer, guarded arrogance. “I’m Senna Rylee.” She did not offer a hand to shake, such formalities would not be of use to her at the moment. Instead she offered up a small wave, raising her hand for a quick moment and then dropping it back down again, now straightening the collar of her coat. She gave a light smile that, oddly enough, wasn’t fake, but it showed her tiredness. She was going to make no effort to changing their earlier perceptions of her, but she wasn’t about to enforce what they may have now thought of her, either.
But as she was busy fixing the collar that was now refusing the stay up, she noticed something different about the Anubis pendant around her neck. It glowed very lightly, which was strange to her. She didn’t know that it could do that. A look of distaste crossed her features. She didn’t want it to glow! It was tacky! The barely pulsing, very soft golden glow coming from the silver pendant was irritating her, and now it was going to look as though she was copying the white-haired moron. Couldn’t allow that to happen.
Fumbling with the necklace, tugging on it nonchalantly like she knew she usually did, she casually tucked it under her shirt. She did this in a forced nervous manner, as though the idea of meeting new people was making her anxious. And as she did so, she allowed it to look as though it had just slipped under. She searched her mind for some sort of excuse, although she found none. But now she was more certain than ever that this was all Bakura’s fault.
She thought of excusing herself from the group, making like she had to be somewhere else. But she didn’t, and the thought of enduring even more boredom and restlessness was far worse than sticking around the group of misfits she was surrounded with. She looked back toward Bakura, still trying to place him. He seemed so odd to her, his mannerisms seemed foreign and fragile to her in the weirdest way. But no matter how intriguing he may turned out to be, she still had to focus on the two other boys, now. While she saw no reason to be wary at that time, she still wanted to analyze them in turn. But perhaps if she’d seen that smirk on Bakura’s face she would have been even more concerned with him.
Senna sighed inwardly, wishing that she’d found some other way to occupy her time. Actually, she wished that she’d gone to school that day. Then she evidently would not have ran into Bakura who had apparently been feeling “ill” and not been there. But oh well, nothing she could do about that now. She’d just have to put up with them.

Great profile, RP Sample's fine as it is, what's in a name right?
Approved. (I can't move this as I'm just a minor staff member, but when Mikami gets back he'll do it and change your member title. So feel free to get in on the act.)

Very, very nice. It's already approved, but I just want to give my two-cents XD
I shall move it, but as for your member group... I'm not entirely sure where to put it. For now, I shall put you under "Undecided", as that is what your character basically is. But just so you know, it is pretty basic.
btw, in case you didn't know, there may be a third group arriving, we are still discussing it. You shall remain "undecided" until a thread will reveal who you side with.
